Our gardens are the areas where we have had the most enjoyable time. As much as we care about herbal décor, we also care for garden furniture, where we will have a pleasant time and create a comfort zone. The elegance, ergonomics, functional features, colors and applications on the furniture we choose... We care about all or even more and we want to know the content. So when choosing our furniture, do we care about the raw material used, that is the genus of the tree, as much as we care about the way of use?
Our gardens are the areas where we have had the most enjoyable time. As much as we care about herbal décor, we also care for garden furniture, where we will have a pleasant time and create a comfort zone. The elegance, ergonomics, functional features, colors and applications on the furniture we choose... We care about all or even more and we want to know the content. So when choosing our furniture, do we care about the raw material used, that is the genus of the tree, as much as we care about the way of use? I wanted to share what I know about the ten highest quality tree species and their characteristics that are resistant to the conditions.
If it is necessary to evaluate these trees according to their commercial values and usage areas, the ranking is as follows;
Teak tree is a tree species whose homeland is South and Southeast Asia and known for its resistance to external conditions. On yachts and ships, this tree is used in contact with water. It has a resistance of 500 years against sea water, insects, sun and other factors. During the excavations carried out in the southern parts of India, objects made of teak wood from 800 – 900 year old graves were removed without injury and decay.
Today, it is preferred primarily in garden furniture and ship deck construction as it is resistant to water, moisture and all kinds of climatic conditions. Teak tree does not contain pests and wolves. This is because it is an oily and tightly textured tree. Furniture made from adult wood is caramel colored. The product loses color over time, this is a natural process. To regain its original color it is sufficient to lubricate only with teak oil.
Iroko is used in areas where the Teak tree is used. It is a tree species that grows in East and West Africa. The use of the Iroko tree includes ship and boat building, interior and exterior decoration, furniture making, wardrobe and carving. It is used in plywood production and decorative covering. It is used in railways, mooring beams and maritime works due to its structure. Iroko is also used in interior spaces and flooring. The essence of Iroko timber is very durable.
The color of the Iroko tree varies from golden orange to light brown and saturated golden brown. In the shade its color gets darker; under sun it fades and becomes white. This is a natural process and change. It gets its original color when lubricated with teak oil.
Its pattern and texture looks like a teak wood. Afrormosia is a tree species that grows in West African. It is used as an alternative to Teak and Iroko trees in furniture manufacturing. In United States it is also used in shipbuilding and in Europe as surface wood coating. It has a moist structure. It is durable and stability is good. Impregnation and polishing can be applied. It is a resistant tree.
The Movingui tree is grown in West Africa, Gabon, Congo and Guinea. Yellow to orangish brown; color tends to darken with age. Movingui frequently exhibits figured grain patterns such as mottle or ripple. Texture fine grain often interlocked, sometimes wavy; lustrous; some logs produce a decorative figure; may contain up to 1.3% silica; contains a yellow extractive that may stain fabrics if moistened. Its yellow color can be quite vibrant, while it can also have highly pronounced mottle figure, making it a favorite for veneering.
It is one of the durable trees that grow in West and Central Africa. Kosipo is a tree that tends to be distorted. This problem is eliminated with slow drying. It is especially used as cutting-veneer sheet, plywood construction, as peel plate, furniture, parquet paneling and inside and outside buildings. Kosipo does not contain pests; it does not bend because it has a resistant structure.
Sapelli (mahogany), native to Western India and Central America, grows in Africa and is a warm climate tree. Its color varies between yellow-red-brown, and this natural color becomes darker with the effect of air over time and this is a natural process. It is a type of tree with little tightness and flexibility. Very rarely bends, works or cracks. It is one of the trees that can remove paint and varnish best. It is a superior quality tree that can be used for many different purposes. It has a large use as interior and exterior parts of buildings, in the production of parquet staircases, seafaring, musical instruments, and all modern and classical furniture as a massive and veneer.
Oak tree timber is a very durable tree species. The timber of the oak tree is quite heavy, grained, but also hard and dense in texture. Oak trees have the status of perennial trees. Its homeland is countries such as Iraq, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Greece and Lebanon. Oak wood is used very often in furniture, construction and decoration. Oak timber is used in interior and exterior coatings, doors, windows, stairs, floor coverings, parquet construction. In addition to these areas, it is frequently preferred in shipbuilding, bridge and pier construction. It is also used in the production of wagons, boats, barrels. A well-established oak will last more than 100 years, even in all humid environments.
It is a species with the hardest structure among coniferous trees.
It is used instead of domestic tar tree. The color, dyeing and polishing properties of the Lareks tree are very good. It is used in all kinds of massive joinery and furniture manufacturing. It is a frequently preferred for exterior walls because of its water resistance. It is used as exterior coating, door, window joinery, floor board, paneling, furniture, construction and shipbuilding. It is used in yachts, boats, decks and wet grounds in Russia and Scandinavian countries. It shows high resistance to water.
A spruce is a tree of the genus Picea, a genus of about 35 species of coniferous evergreen trees in the family Pinaceae, found in the northern temperate and boreal (taiga) regions of the Earth. It grows in cold and temperate regions in the northern hemisphere. It is a soft tree type. It is light in weight and has good flexibility and resistance. It responds very well to any color application. The main known species of about 40 species are European spruce, Canadian spruce, Himalayan spruce, Balkan spruce, Siberian spruce and black spruce.
The type used industrially is Siberian pine. Siberian pine is also known as golden pine. It grows up in the Siberian region of Russia. The structure of Siberian pine logs and its distinction from other species, its soft structure. The fact that this log is subjected to certain processes at the factory stage, and it can be processed easily and well, makes the tree the most used and demanded species by the sectors.
It is used in areas where the tree is used, in the manufacture of stairs, exterior joinery, furniture, paneling and interior building. It is yellow in color and 2 times more fibrous than other types, more flexible and less knotty.
